POSITION DESCRIPTION

East-West Seed is seeking an Onion Breeder responsible for developing competitive Short-day Onion hybrids.  This position will implement and manage the onion breeding activities at the East-West Seed Yuma Breeding Station in Arizona, under the guidance of the Onion Crop Breeding Manager.  The Breeder is expected to recruit, manage and train the field support staff.  The successful candidate will be breeding for the East-West Seed global tropical markets in Asia, Latin America and Africa.  Some travel to these markets is required.    

QUALIFICATIONS

• M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Genetics, Plant Breeding or related discipline; or equivalent onion breeding experience
• Adaptable, and ability to work independently or in a team setting
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
• Physically capable of handling the required tasks and range of working conditions
• Willing to travel internationally
• US citizen or US permanent resident, or must be able to work legally in the US
