Breeding Site Lead

Location: Huxley, Iowa, USA

Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability to lead a multidisciplinary field testing and operations team. The Site Lead partners with on and off site Breeders, Scientists, and Project Managers in partner organizations to support Monsanto’s business needs. The Site Lead will provide leadership and direction while ensuring people development, efficient work flow, and work load balancing occurs. This individual is critical to project implementation and will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge proprietary field research and seed processing equipment, superior genetic material, and help drive a large yield testing program and subsequent nurseries.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the overall vision and goals of the site and ensure that the site is focused where needed to be successful.
  • Development of people leaders. Ensure that feedback, critical conversations, coaching, and development planning are occurring by junior managers. Oversee and ensure the active management of people development at the Research Assistant/Associate level.
  • Understands the direction of Monsanto as a company and translates that direction into hiring the correct talent to enable those goals and directing the personal development of the current team
  • Ensure that site personnel are trained in all ESH procedures, regulatory and compliance protocols, and business conduct protocols.
  • Acquire and maintain facilities and equipment for effective and efficient functioning of all programs.
  • Administer the recruiting, training, development and retention of personnel
  • Manage station budget.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • BS in Plant Breeding, Agronomy or related field of study and 8+ years of demonstrated people and project management in an agricultural-related position.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Broad knowledge of crop production and farming practices.
  • Strong computer skills related to data acquisition, organization, and data analysis.
  • The ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • MS in Plant Breeding, Agronomy or related field of study with 3+ years of significant people and project management experience in an agricultural-related research position.
  • Good working knowledge of statistics and experimental design
  • Experience with farm equipment operation and repair.
