Production Representative

Description
This position is accountable for the placement, contracting and supervision of the production through harvest of assigned vegetable seed crops to meet planned volume, seed quality specification and established timely delivery to operation facilities.
Major Responsibilities
- Maintain records on each crop and provide weekly crop status updates to management.
- Select and contract with growers and recommend grower contract prices.
- Supervise planting of company Stockseed for trueness to type, accuracy of planting rate, depth and securing of all leftover stock.
- Coordinating and supervising roughing activities in crops using seasonal labor.
- Update crop estimates and delivery dates in the system on a regular basis.
- Schedule and monitor all harvest activities to maintain quality adherence and timely delivery of seed to meet customer ship dates.
- Handling grower and/or customer issues.
- Develop, monitor and document the results of new variety trials each year.
- Assumes responsibility for field vehicles, equipment, safety, and maintenance within production territory.
- Assists in writing revisions to production manuals.
- Assists in scalping, drying operation and shipping of production seed to Oxnard.

Qualifications
- B.S. Degree Required in Agriculture, Biology, Life Sciences, Business, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field.
- 2+ years of Production Agriculture experience.
- Valid State Driver's license, Certified State Crop consultants license preferred.
Communications Skills
- Ability to communicate to growers/farmers on cultural practices required to raise a successful seed crop.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Outlook). Data entry of field information and estimates is required on a timely basis.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to regularly lift / move 50 pounds and work in field conditions including heat, dust, cold, wind and rain.
- This position requires long hours in peak planting, detasseling and harvesting time periods.
- This position requires occasional out of town travel.
