Manager, Collaboration for Plant Pathogen Strain Identification Program (CPPSI)
Location: Davis, California, USA Job Summary:
The Collaboration for Plant Pathogen Strain Identification (CPPSI) is a program that collaborates with members of the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA), American Phytopathological Society (APS), the International Seed Federation (ISF) and other agencies or institutions, such as GEVES in France and Naktuibow in the Netherlands, to coordinate, identify, collect, maintain and distribute differential plant host sets (DHS) and reference plant pathogen strains (RPS) used to confirm disease resistance reactions. Under direction of an Analyst V-Supervisor at the Seed Biotechnology Center the Museum Scientist will provide high level management and leadership for all aspects of the CPPSI. The CPPSI is a new entity. The Museum Scientist will provide leadership and work closely with the CPPSI technical working group to establish the needed systems, procedures and partnerships required to build a successful program that is sustainable and receives continued support from industry, governmental and academic partners. Responsible for Program Development (55%), Adminstration and Management (35%), Outreach and Communications (10%)
Physical Demands:
Travel by car or air to meeting sites, including occasional overnight stay in California, US and International locations; a valid CA driver's license is required; ability to manipulate objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
Work Environment:
Ability and willingness to travel in state, out-of-state and international. Work on occasional evenings and weekends; work a flexible schedule to meet operational needs; Initial funding for this position is solely supported by gifts and will remain open as long as they are continued.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in program administration with demonstrated management skills in planning, analysis, organization, leadership, conflict resolution, decision making and independent thinking.
- Skills to interact effectively with agency representatives, industry personnel, researchers, department staff, interest group representatives and administrators.
- Demonstrated skills to conduct thorough logical analysis of a situation, task or program, including identification of issues, challenges, barriers, possible solution, weighing their pros and cons, and plan and positively resolve the situation.
- Excellent skills to support client relations and maintain the highest level of quality customer service techniques, including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally before groups.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Demonstrated computer skills to use and maintain databases, spreadsheets and word processing using programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
- Experience maintaining and tracking inventories.
- Demonstrated experience in working with differential plant host sets and reference plant pathogen strains and Phytosanitary permits.
- Demonstrated skill and experience in desktop publishing and image processing.
- Familiarity with creating web pages.
- Familiarity with the seed industry and general agricultural crop practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree and five years' work experience in agricultural science and/or program management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to prioritize functions and to deal simultaneously and effectively with a number of ongoing activities.
- Knowledge and experience in collecting data and organizing it in a concise and accurate fashion.
- Proficiency in electronic communications, including e-mail and the internet.
- Publication, printing and production knowledge and layout skills.
- Publicity/promotion/media skills.
- Knowledge of the University organization, staff, programs and policy.
- Familiarity with USDA Plant Pathogen permitting system and seed import/export Phytosanitary regulations.
