Bayer CropScience launches new foliar fungicide for winter wheat and soybeans - Arming Canadian growers against a broad spectrum of diseases with Stratego PR

Guelph, Ontario, Canada
October 6, 2014

Bayer CropScience is offering a new tool in the fight against disease with the launch of Stratego® PRO fungicide, a broad spectrum fungicide with two modes of action (Group 3 and Group 11) to prevent and treat a wide range of diseases in winter wheat and soybeans. Available for the 2015 growing season, Stratego PRO is the next generation of Bayer CropScience’s Stratego® fungicide, which is widely used and trusted by growers.

“New and improved Stratego PRO delivers increased yield in both soybeans and winter wheat over untreated checks, key competitors and Stratego. With the addition of prothioconazole Stratego PRO provides both preventive and post infection disease control. Like trusted Stratego, it has two distinct modes of action,” explains Christopher Turcot, Portfolio Manager, Row Crops, at Bayer CropScience.

The fungicide attacks fungal metabolism and prevents spore germination to provide a long-lasting barrier against diseases. On winter wheat, the fungicide provides control against septoria leaf blotch and powdery mildew. In soybeans, Stratego PRO controls Asian soybean rust, frogeye leaf spot and brown spot and suppresses white mould, charcoal rot and stem blight.

“We are excited to bring Stratego PRO to Canadian winter wheat and soybean growers. In addition to continuing the legacy of Stratego in winter wheat, it is one of the only products available to soybean growers that offers an effective solution against white mould and powdery mildew with one application,” adds Turcot.

Research trials for Stratego PRO showed that by effectively controlling labeled diseases, the fungicide delivers incremental yield and profitability. Field studies proved up to five  per cent yield increase in wheat (vs. Stratego) and an eight per cent increase in soybeans (vs. untreated).

Stratego PRO is registered for ground and aerial application and should be applied as a preventive disease control measure, or at the very early stages of disease development. Stratego will continue to be available for spring wheat and other cereals.
