Dow AgroSciences names cotton development specialist - Dr. Chad Brewer to support PhytoGen in the Midsouth

Indianapolis, Indian, USA
October 12, 2010

Dow AgroSciences announces Dr. Chad Brewer has joined the company as a cotton development specialist (CDS) for PhytoGen®. Brewer will help lead sales efforts for PhytoGen® cottonseed and WideStrike® Insect Protection in the upper Midsouth. Brewer is the latest addition to an elite group of cotton experts at PhytoGen who specialize in cotton agronomy and pest management.

"With his background in trait commercialization, Brewer is an excellent addition to our team. He'll help us fulfill the needs of PhytoGen customers as our market share continues to grow," says Duane Canfield, general manager and portfolio marketing leader for PhytoGen.

As one of two CDSs for PhytoGen in the Midsouth, Brewer will assist growers in the upper Delta regions of northeastern Arkansas, western Tennessee, and the Bootheel of Missouri. Brewer will help cotton growers maximize profitability potential by recommending the most appropriate PhytoGen varieties, taking into consideration factors such as geography, soil type and insect pressure. Brewer also will provide technical support for Dow AgroSciences sales representatives by evaluating PhytoGen cottonseed performance.

"Brewer has an aptitude for efficiently summarizing field data and effectively communicating that to growers, consultants, dealers and university personnel," Canfield says.

Before joining Dow AgroSciences, Brewer worked as a product and trait efficacy research scientist for Pioneer Hi-Bred International in maize and soybean trait commercialization. Once new traits were determined viable for launching, Brewer helped communicate agronomic information to both sales teams and producers. Brewer also worked as an agronomy research scientist at Pioneer, where he executed projects in crop management, crop rotation and environmental challenges innate to Southern geographies.

As an Arkansas native who grew up on a cattle operation, Brewer is passionate about helping producers.

"My goal is to help farmers improve the efficacy and profitability of their businesses through value-added traits," Brewer says. "Although cotton utilizes different management strategies from grain crops, I look forward to getting back on the front lines and again directly working with growers," Brewer says.

Brewer received his doctorate at the University of Arkansas and a bachelor's degree at Arkansas State University. He and his family will continue to reside in Marion, Ark.
