Potandon Produce L.L.C. / Potato Seed Solutions is looking for a major contributor to directly engage in and manage the breeding, development and execution of the Potato Seed Solutions strategy as it relates to new variety development and breeding new varieties of potatoes.

This position will manage all activities that relate to breeding, greenhouse and laboratory operations, field trialing, and assist in seed development.

• Negotiate with and develop relationships with potato seed breeders, University Research stations and personnel, and breeding programs that lead to new varieties that can be added to the Potandon, Sunrain, or Potato Seed Solutions product line.
• Oversee and engage in all activities relating to potato breeding.
• Responsible for managing all Potato Seed Solutions seed components such as breeding, hill selections, plantlet development, minituber production, laboratory procedures and as necessary seed development trials.
• Identify and act upon key new germplasm opportunities to increase profitable variety lines.
• Work with germplasm, seed management, and breeding to develop high yielding, high quality, and sustainable varieties for the short, intermediate, and long term.

Required Skills

• Experience in fresh potato production business development management or potato variety research development work required, including field trial experience.
• Strong computer skills desired
• Strong managerial and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with potato seed marketing, field personnel, international and North American breeders, research stations and University Ag Departments.
• Ability to manage complete projects from start to finish
• Ability to develop business and breeding plans relating to projects.

Education

• M.S. or PhD in Agriculture, Food Science, Ag Business, or Plant Science preferred
