Western Australia Department of Agriculture - Articles from the rural magazine Ag in Focus now available online

Western Australia
November 7, 2011

Excerpts from the popular rural magazine Ag in Focus are now available for free on the Department of Agriculture and Food’s website.

Articles contributed by the department to the most recent edition, as well as previous editions during the year, can be accessed at the click of a mouse.

Department Grains Industry Executive Director Peter Metcalfe said Ag in Focus featured the latest information on department innovation.

“The Spring edition features an extensive article on how the new Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre (AEGIC) will work and how the department’s activities will link with it,” Mr Metcalfe said.

“There’s also an article on a pre-breeding research technique called MAGIC, which will help to develop new and improved grain varieties.”

The latest edition also features articles on the new Pilot Malting Australia collaboration, new lupin and subterranean clover varieties, and the introduction of PestFax Mapping.

While the publication will be of most interest to broadacre producers, it also includes articles on the department’s activities in other areas.

The Spring edition also includes an overview of the department’s role in restarting of the live cattle export trade to Indonesia, as well as additional opportunities being pursued by its Animal Health Laboratories.

“As the old adage goes ‘knowledge is power’ and in this day and age it’s important to keep up to date with the latest research, development and extension information and innovations to stay ahead of the game,” Mr Metcalfe said.

“Anyone involved in the WA agriculture and food sector will find Ag in Focus provides a range of useful articles that will help them to operate in our increasingly competitive and complex environment.”
