Michigan Corn and Soybean research meeting series slated

Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) has scheduled the annual corn and soybean research meeting series for Jan. 13-Feb. 2, 2012, at various locations through the state.
The Corn Marketing Program of Michigan and the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee are sponsoring the series, which aims to share the research results of researchers who received funding from either group.

Researchers will be there to describe the results of their work and answer participants’ questions.

Featured presentations will include:

  • Soybean Cyst Nematode Management Update by George Bird, professor in the Department of Entomology
  • Sudden Death Syndrome Research Update by Martin Chilvers, assistant professor in the Department of Plant Pathology
  • New Herbicide Resistance Technology in Soybeans by Christy Sprague, assistant professor in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences
  • Western Bean Cutworm Update by Chris DiFonzo, professor in the Department of Entomology
  • The Commodity Market Outlook by Jim Hilker, professor in the Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Economics.

The sessions will be moderated by Keith Reinholt of the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee and Jody Pollok-Newsom of the Michigan Corn Marketing Program. The Michigan Farm Radio Network will provide the noon market update from the meetings.

Three Restricted Use Pesticide Credits (Private and Category 1A), Certified Crop Advisor and Michigan Environmental Assurance Program Phase 1 Credits have been applied for and are pending approval for these meetings.

Meetings run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is free to growers who pre-register for the event. Please register at least 7 days before the date of the meeting to reserve your place at the meeting and your meal.

January 13: Cabela’s, 110 Cabela Blvd. East, Dundee, MI 48131. To register, call 734-240-3170, ext. 3182 (The Monroe County MSUE Office is closed on Wednesday and Fridays. On these days, please leave a message on the answering machine with your registration and contact information.)

January 16: Bavarian Inn Lodge, 1 Covered Bridge Lane, Frankenmuth, MI 48734. To register, call 989-758-2500.

February 2: Van Buren Intermediate School District Conference Center, 490 South Paw Paw Street, Lawrence, MI 49064. To register, call 269-657-8213.

February 3: Sanilac Career Center, 175 East Aitken Road, Peck, MI 48466. To register, call 810-648-2515.
