Bayer CropScience ploughs back in to chickpea grower community

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
12 April 2012

Chickpea growers across northern New South Wales and southern Queensland will continue to benefit from Bayer CropScience’s ongoing investments in local communities this season with its leading product Balance®, the pre-emergent herbicide for chickpeas.

Now is the right time for chickpea growers to be protecting their crops from broadleaf weeds to ensure maximum yield and crop quality.

“Using Balance at the beginning of the season will allow growers to benefit from its prolonged period of weed control because it’s slow to degrade, not unduly affected by UV light and activates after it rains,” said Nick Moses, Product Manager Broadacre and Rice at Bayer CropScience.

“The unique chemistry of Balance offers reliable results under variable climatic conditions, and unlike other registered herbicides in chickpeas, it can be applied to hot and dry soils without risk of product breakdown by heat and sunlight,” Nick said.

With Balance, not only will chickpea growers be investing in a good yield, but they will also help Bayer CropScience to re-invest in the chickpea industry with a proportion of each dollar spent going towards a chickpea research and development program.

And when purchasing Balance this season, growers and agronomists will receive an option to support either the State Emergency Service (SES) or Royal Flying Doctor Service within New South Wales or Queensland, with a percentage of the purchase going towards one of these vital community services.

Purchasers can also choose to re-invest in the industry by nominating Pulse Australia or the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) for Bayer CropScience to make a donation to.

“We’re very grateful for Bayer’s continued commitment to us and the broader pulse industry, the team’s continued focus on innovation continues to help underpin the future growth of our industry,” Gordon Cumming, Industry Development Manager at Pulse Australia, said.

Free seed depth indicators are also available when purchasing Balance this season, while stocks last.
