UniQuest congratulates the University of Tasmania’s Dr Calum Wilson on receiving the prestigious Bayer CropScience 2012 Researcher of the Year award.
Dr Wilson, an Associate Professor at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture, was recognised for his contribution to the vegetable industry at the Ausveg National Awards for Excellence in Hobart on 12 May.
UniQuest is working with Dr Wilson to commercialise his research, in particular new varieties of disease-resistant potatoes.
“Dr Wilson has made a significant breakthrough for farmers, not only in Australia but also globally, since potatoes are the world’s fourth largest food crop, with some 18 million hectares dedicated to growing them,” said David Henderson, UniQuest Managing Director.
“We are delighted to see Dr Wilson receive this honour for 20 years’ dedication to advancing the reputation of Australian vegetable farming and agricultural science internationally.
“Public acknowledgment like this from industry peers enhances the attraction for entrepreneurial partners to collaborate on accelerating the transfer of Dr Wilson’s discoveries onto the market,” Mr Henderson said.
