Burrus Hybrids teams with MyFarms to increase yield through first Data-Driven Farming System

Arenzville, Illinois, USA
June 25, 2012

Growers have been seeking clear product placement guidance from seed suppliers for years, and Burrus Hybrids is pleased to deliver the first fully integrated field-level planting plan to help growers maximize yield. The announcement was made by Tom Burrus, president of Burrus Hybrids.

Burrus is using the Data-Driven Farming System by MyFarms to combine proprietary product knowledge with the data farmers own and manage to improve crop production. MyFarms was created to make it safe and easy for family farms and their advisors to increase yield by embracing Data-Driven Farming® practices such as site-specific hybrid placement and planting rates.

A Burrus product recommendation now leverages proprietary test plot data and product ratings to help customers quickly discover the best seed variety and planting rate for each field. The solution combines on-farm data such as soil types, field and equipment details, and farm-specific management practices with regional product performance ratings managed by Burrus to quickly find the best product combination for each field.

“We’re committed to delivering the best solutions for the quickly evolving needs of advanced crop producers,” said Burrus. “The MyFarms platform was designed by fourth-generation corn farmers who bring hands-on production experience that only a farming heritage can provide. Together we have broken new ground that I expect other segments of agriculture will soon embrace.”

“We are pleased to work with such a well-respected name as Burrus Hybrids, which has assumed an impressive leadership position in the seed industry,” said Chris Fennig, managing director of MyFarms. “By proactively defining the processes and logic needed to automatically leverage its deep in-house expertise, Burrus can now deliver clear agronomic guidance to customers with each bag of seed.”

Seed performance can vary dramatically by soil type and production management method. The Burrus and MyFarms partnership is enabling growers to make decisions that increase profitability while maximizing the world’s food, fuel and fiber supply.

“Farmers in general are overwhelmed when picking up a seed catalog today,” said Burrus. “The choices and technologies are so plentiful that growers sometimes don’t know what to do, especially when a multitude of soil types across their farms are factored in. The real beauty of MyFarms is that it simplifies the selection process for the farmer and makes a recommendation not just for a choice, but for the most productive choice.”

Burrus Hybrids was founded in 1935 and has a long history of providing exceptional seed, consistent performance, and outstanding value to growers in Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Burrus purchased Hoblit® Seed Company in 2008 and created a strategic alliance with Hughes® Hybrids in 2010 to further strengthen the Burrus core strategy as the premier source of quality seed corn and soybeans. For the 77th consecutive season, Burrus offers 100% free replant to guarantee farmers a growing start.

MyFarms is an independent technology company that makes it safe and easy to maximize yield through Data-Driven Farming practices by combining on-farm data with the unique performance insight of leading seed, chemical and fertilizer suppliers.
