Germains recently attended the 37th American Society of Sugar Beet Technologists (ASSBT) meeting in California. Four hundred technologists attended from across the sugar beet industry, including those involved in seed production, seed protection, agronomy, harvesting and processing, providing an ideal forum for the Germains team to network and attend meetings with US sugar beet customers. The strong representation by Germains underlines our strong commitment to the sugar beet market in the US.
Germains were invited to present two topics at the ASSBT meeting; ‘performance of primed seed under drought conditions’ and ‘speed and uniformity of sugar beet seed germination’. The performance of primed seed under drought conditions was particularly relevant to the US growers, due to the dry conditions seen in 2012.
It was also an opportunity for Germains to announce their membership of the Beet Sugar Development Foundation (BSDF) committee (who also met at the ASSBT event), As committee members, Germains will now be part of a dedicated group who will focus on the advancement of sugar beet production and beet sugar processing through science-based research.
