Outlook for 2013: Sales and earnings increase continues to be targeted in volatile economic environment
BASF increased sales by 3% in the second quarter of 2013 to just under €18.4 billion thanks to higher sales volumes in all segments. Income from operations (EBIT) before special items decreased by 5% to around €1.8 billion. In the first half of 2013, sales reached around €38.1 billion, surpassing the level of the previous first half by 4%. EBIT before special items increased by 3% to more than €4 billion.
“ In light of the challenging conditions, our business performed well in the first half of 2013. Our business with crop protection products contributed substantially to sales and earnings growth. Earnings rose considerably in the Functional Materials & Solutions segment. Higher volumes in the Oil & Gas segment also boosted sales and earnings development,” said Dr. Kurt Bock, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE at the company’s half-year press conference.
At just under 2%, global gross domestic product grew more slowly in the first half of 2013 compared with the same period of the previous year. Global industrial production only rose by around 1% over the same period. Bock said: “The economic environment is and remains volatile. The European economy is shrinking slightly; the Chinese growth engine is no longer running at full power; the United States is growing moderately. We are clearly feeling these effects and are doing everything we can to maneuver BASF successfully through this challenging environment. ”

BASF steigerte den Umsatz im 2. Quartal 2013 dank eines höheren Absatzes in allen Segmenten um 3 % auf knapp 18,4 Milliarden €. Das Ergebnis der Betriebstätigkeit (EBIT) vor Sondereinflüssen sank gegenüber dem Vorjahresquartal um 5 % auf rund 1,8 Milliarden €. Im 1. Halbjahr 2013 übertraf der Umsatz den Wert des Vorjahreszeitraums um 4 % und lag bei rund 38,1 Milliarden €. Das EBIT vor Sondereinflüssen stieg um 3 % auf über 4 Milliarden €.
„BASF hat sich im 1. Halbjahr 2013 angesichts der herausfordernden Bedingungen gut behauptet. Unser Geschäft mit Pflanzenschutzmitteln trug maßgeblich zum Umsatz- und Ergebnisanstieg bei. Im Segment Functional Materials & Solutions wuchs das Ergebnis deutlich. Höhere Mengen bei Oil & Gas stützten die Umsatz- und Ergebnisentwicklung ebenfalls“, sagte Dr. Kurt Bock, Vorstandsvorsitzender der BASF SE, anlässlich der Halbjahres-Pressekonferenz.
Mit knapp 2 % ist das globale Bruttoinlandsprodukt im 1. Halbjahr 2013 gegenüber dem Vorjahreszeitraum schwächer gewachsen. Die weltweite Industrieproduktion nahm im gleichen Zeitraum nur um rund 1 % zu. Bock: „Das wirtschaftliche Umfeld ist und bleibt unbeständig: Die europäische Wirtschaft schrumpft leicht, der chinesische Wachstumsmotor läuft nicht mehr auf Hochtouren, die USA wachsen moderat. Die Auswirkungen spüren wir deutlich und setzen alles daran, BASF erfolgreich durch diese herausfordernden Zeiten zu steuern.“

A BASF aumentou suas vendas em 3% no segundo trimestre de 2013 para aproximadamente €18,4 bilhões, devido a um maior volume de vendas em todos os segmentos. A receita operacional (EBIT) antes de itens extraordinários diminuiu 5% para cerca de €1,8 bilhão. No primeiro semestre de 2013, as vendas atingiram cerca de €38,1 bilhões, superando o nível do primeiro semestre anterior em 4%. O EBIT antes de itens extraordinários aumentou 3% para mais de €4 bilhões.
"Mesmo diante de condições desafiadoras, nossa empresa teve um bom desempenho no primeiro semestre de 2013. O negócio de Proteção de Cultivos contribuiu substancialmente para o crescimento das vendas e ganhos. O lucro aumentou consideravelmente no segmento de Materiais e Soluções Funcionais. O maior volume no segmento de Óleo e Gás também impulsionou as vendas e nossos resultados", disse o Dr. Kurt Bock, presidente da Junta Diretiva da BASF SE, durante coletiva de imprensa promovida pela empresa.
O produto interno bruto mundial desacelerou cerca de 2% no primeiro semestre de 2013, em comparação com o mesmo período do ano anterior. A produção industrial global cresceu apenas cerca de 1% em relação ao mesmo período. Bock afirmou: "O ambiente econômico está volátil e assim permanecerá. A economia europeia está encolhendo ligeiramente; o crescimento chinês não está mais com o motor funcionando em plena potência; e os Estados Unidos estão crescendo moderadamente. Estamos sentindo claramente esses efeitos e estamos fazendo o possível para conduzir nossos negócios com sucesso neste ambiente desafiador".
