The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC) announces the appointment of Sarah Cossey as Director of Operations

Sarah CosseyThe Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC) is today pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Cossey as Director of Operations.

Sarah Cossey CPFA MAAT, joined TGAC in 2011, as Finance and Operations Manager, and since early 2013 has been Acting Deputy Director (Operations). As Director of Operations, Sarah will have responsibility for four groups: Platforms and Pipelines, External Relations, Scientific Computing and Finance and Business Support.

The Operations Division is also responsible for delivering TGAC’s National Capability in Genomics, funded by our strategic partner, BBSRC. Sarah is keen to ensure that the operational groups work closely with TGAC’s stakeholders to ensure the Institute delivers world class science to its UK collaborators.

Mario Caccamo, Director of TGAC, said: “I am delighted that Sarah Cossey has been appointed as the Director of Operations, in a strongly competitive field. Our Board of Trustees and I look forward to working with her to realise TGAC’s vision and continue to build our Institute as a world renowned centre for research and training in genomics and computational biology.”

Sarah added: “It’s an exciting time to be involved in genomics and computational bioscience. The technological platforms are developing at such a fast pace that the potential to further our understanding of biology increases as the high throughput analysis allows us to explore previously unanswered questions. Throughout my career I have been focused on ensuring that operational delivery is of the highest quality, with a proactive approach that focuses on reliability, flexibility and responsiveness. I am looking forward to leading the expert TGAC teams who are delivering high quality services to our own science faculty as well as UK and international collaborators”.

Sarah is a professional accountant and project manager. Sarah qualified as an accountant in 1994, and worked in finance and audit within local government and the NHS until 1998 when she moved to the Cabinet Office, London, as Head of Finance and Business Support for the Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI).

Directly prior to joining TGAC, she spent three years in a private sector media company, leading a shared finance service. She is a PRINCE II Project Manager and has successfully delivered a number of large projects, including the merger of two government departments and the implementation of new IT systems combined with major organisational change.
