Pakistan - To increase cotton production, new varieties of BT cotton to be developed for upcoming season

Cotton Commissioner and Vice President of Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) Dr Khalid Abdullah have said the new breed of BT cotton would be developed for upcoming season to upsurge the cotton yield and attain the goal in the country.

He further revealed that the 16 new varieties of BT cotton would be consigned to National Coordinator varietals trial and the final report would be submit by a committee of the experts and agricultural scientists related to the germination and resistance of these varieties.

The Federal Committee on Cotton agreed to set the target of 15.1 million bales for 2014-15 in view of revitalization of the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee, a massive training programme for cotton growers in modern production technologies, and better crop extension services committed by provinces.
