IP in Ag Innovation Series: Broccoli

June 19, 2014

Source: IP52.org, a movement, started by CropLife International and dedicated to changing the way we look at the world around us by better understanding the role of IP in our lives.

From Ancient Brassica to Modern Broccoli through IP

Broccoli is one of healthiest, most versatile vegetables grown worldwide. It is high in vitamins, antioxidants, and calcium and studies have shown it can be helpful in preventing cancer. There is a reason why our parents always told us to 'eat our broccoli' growing up!

However, broccoli researchers don't tell their children to eat their broccoli, they tell them to 'eat their IP!' This is because innovators around the world have developed essential IP-protected varieties of broccoli that are helping meet pest and climate challenges in broccoli fields. These varieties ultimately increases farmers' productivity and ability to provide us this nutritious crop, and IP helps make it possible.
