Bejo Zaden to share knowhow and innovation at its Open Days

Warmenhuizen, The Netherlands
July 22, 2014

Bejo Zaden’s Open Days focus on a lot more than inspiration alone. From 23 until 27 September, Bejo will be presenting its entire range, while representatives of the company will share their expertise with the visitors. Bejo offers its customers all the ingredients they need to innovate their cultivation procedures so as to make the most of the company’s vegetable seeds. The varieties can be inspected and compared in Bejo’s conventional and organic demonstration fields.

Welcome addition to the healthy snack segment

As in previous years, Bejo will again be paying attention to its innovative concepts. Among this year’s novelties are celery sticks: a new item for the snack segment. In some countries it’s impossible to imagine supermarkets without celery sticks. The introduction of new varieties with long stems makes the production of celery sticks more interesting. A good example of a variety that is particularly suitable for this market segment is Balada. This variety also has long, smooth stems and can be readily industrially processed. Balada of course also has an excellent flavour, so all in all a welcome addition to the healthy snack segment. New opportunities for the consumption of celery, which also makes an ideal picnic snack.

Tasty, healthy vegetables

Besides the celery sticks, Bejo will once again also be presenting its cabbage concepts ‘Coolwrap’ and ‘Léttage’. ‘Coolwrap’ is a white cabbage with a sweet flavour and a flat shape from which square cabbage leaves can be cut. The fine veins make the leaves of this cabbage very suitable for use as wraps, rolling sushi or filling healthy sandwiches. Coolwrap is also ideal for low-carbohydrate and gluten-free diets.

Bejo’s ‘Léttage’ concept covers several cabbage varieties with a mild, sweet flavour. Cabbage remains crisp for a long time and is very nutritious. This makes Léttage extremely suitable for healthy, tasty salads. “These concepts are our answers to the growing demand for tasty, healthy vegetables that are easy to prepare,” says Perry Kuilboer, Bejo’s sales manager for the Benelux. “The varieties of these concepts can be admired in our demonstration field, and everyone will also be able to taste them in the delicious snacks that will be prepared at our cooking demonstration, along with our healthy purple sprouting broccoli and tasty snack carrots.”

Many new machines

The exhibition of machinery that attracts many visitors every year will this year be expanded with various companies that are looking forward to demonstrating their new machines to no fewer than 3000 visitors from all over the world. Among the new machines will be a fully automatic planting machine with a tremendous capacity developed by Planttape. Also new is a caterpillar vehicle with a loading platform for harvesting cabbages. This vehicle eliminates the need for the machines to drive from the land onto the road. There will also be a new type of onion harvester with less risk of damage to the onion bulbs.

The Open Days will take place at Trambaan 1 in the Dutch town of Warmenhuizen from Tuesday 23 up to and including Saturday 27 September, from 9 am until 5 pm (on Saturday until 4 pm).
