11th Training Course on Next Generation Sequencing Technologies for Crop Improvement to be held November 17- 28, 2014 at ICRISAT (India)

India
September 1, 2014

The ICRISAT's Center of Excellence in Genomics (CEG, http://www.ceg.icrisat.org/) is pleased to announce its 11th training course on Next Generation Sequencing Technologies for Crop improvement to be held during November 17- 28, 2014 in ICRISAT, Patancheru, Hyderabad (India). This course is part of the Critical Focus Area-Molecular Breeding of ICRISAT. ICRISAT-CEG has already trained >260 scientists by organizing 10 training courses.

To deploy genomics-assisted breeding (GAB) for crop improvement, cost effective genotyping and analysis of genotyping data to select most appropriate candidates for crossing is very essential. In the context of recent advances in next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, it is now possible to undertake re-sequencing or high throughput genotyping (HTPG) approaches such as genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) in any crop. However, the main challenge is to undertake appropriate data analysis in a given time frame (within the window of crossing) by using appropriate decision support tools. With an objective to empower NARS partners in GAB, in the series of earlier ten training courses, ICRISAT-CEG is organizing the 11th CEG Training Course. Interested scientists practicing/having potential to deploy molecular breeding are invited to apply online http://www.ceg.icrisat.org/cegregistration.html .
