​Mycogen Seeds growers excel in World Forage Analysis Superbowl

Mycogen Seeds customers were honored at the World Forage Analysis Superbowl as Grand Champion BMR Corn Silage and Quality Counts Corn Silage winner. The World Forage Analysis Superbowl had a record number of entries this year, totaling 469 forage samples across seven categories. The winners were announced at World Dairy Expo on Oct. 1 in Madison, Wis.
 
The BMR Corn Silage category grand champion was Champion Dairy in Clinton, N.Y. The Mycogen® BMR corn silage entry received a final score of 94.40 with a 64.69 percent neutral detergent fiber digestibility (NDFD) and 3,865 pounds of milk per ton. Other test values included 36.53 percent neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and 7.10 percent crude protein (CP). All  ten finalists  in the BMR Corn Silage category were Mycogen brand hybrids.
 
The Quality Counts Corn Silage Winner was Maple Downs Farm II from Middleburg, N.Y., recognized for its undigestible neutral detergent fiber (uNDF). The Mycogen F2F346 entry received a final score of 89.01 with a 74.77 percent NDFD and 3,579 pounds of milk per ton. The sample had 37.34 percent NDF and 8.36 percent CP.

  • Sixth place: Virgil Gasser, Creston, Ohio
  • Seventh place: Doody Farms, Tully, N.Y.
  • Eighth place: True Farms Inc, Perry Center, N.Y.
  • Ninth place: Valley Vu Dairy, Cumberland, Wis.
  • Tenth place: Coyne Farm, Avon, N.Y.
 
Standard Corn Silage finalists
  • Second place: Pasch Dairy, Weidman, Mich.
  • Fourth place: Hickory Corners Dairy, Hickory Corners, Mich.
  • Sixth place: Gary Fewless, Leroy, Mich.
 
The BMR and Standard Corn Silage categories are judged based on forage analysis, visual analysis and milk per ton.
