INCOTEC Malaysia and Subur Kurnia to jointly produce and distribute coated paddy rice seed in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
November 5, 2014

On September 19, 2014, INCOTEC Malaysia and Subur Kurnia signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cement their intention to enter into a joint venture partnership for the production and distribution of coated seeds for paddy rice in Malaysia.

INCOTEC Malaysia is the newest subsidiary of the INCOTEC Group, an organization which is the market leader in the field of seed coating and other seed enhancements . Subur Kurnia is formed by some of the most significant players in the paddy rice Malaysian arena including seed producers and entrepreneurs in related businesses.

Initially the joint venture will focus on the marketing of a unique seed coating for rice developed by INCOTEC. This seed coating contains the product methaldahyde, a product that protects the rice plant from the Golden Apple Snail which is a notorious and devastating pest for the rice crops in South East Asia. The methods used to date to combat this pest involve the use of very harmful substances which pollute the water causing damage to the environment and posing serious health threats to farmers. The unique seed coating is extremely innovative and offers improved protection from the Golden Apple snail in a way that it is very environmentally friendly and not harmful for people.

Cyril Hew, General Manager INCOTEC Malaysia: “This agreement is a step forward for the paddy rice sector in Malaysia. We have found an excellent partner in Subur Kurnia, as they not only bring a wealth of knowledge and years of experience in the Malaysian paddy rice market, but they are also committed to introducing sustainable farming practices through new and innovative growing techniques. In the coming years we expect to introduce this new coating all over the South East Asian region where the Golden Apple snail is causing problems”.

Dr. Peter Lee Fuei Siong of Subur Kurnia: “INCOTEC’s long standing reputation globally as a reliable and very innovative company makes them the most suitable choice when it comes to introducing this innovative new seed coating. We look forward to a good and fruitful partnership from which we foresee the introduction of more  products that will improve the paddy rice seed business in Malaysia”.
