Processors & Growers Research Organisation (PGRO) achieves 'GLP' accreditation

United Kingdom
November 13, 2014

PGRO facilities and staff have been officially-recognised to carry out work to good laboratory practice (GLP) standards. This along with the PGRO’s existing ORETO accreditation embodies a set of principles that provide a framework within which PGRO’s research work is planned, performed, monitored, recorded, reported and archived.

“This is further official proof of the reliability and technical quality of all our work,” says Jim Scrimshaw, PGRO Principal Technical Officer. “PGRO has been operating with ORETO accreditation for many years, ORETO (Official Recognition of Efficacy Testing Facilities or Organisations in the UK) certifies that PGRO is recognised as being competent to carry out trials/tests for agriculture and horticulture in the context of biological and semiochemicals, but in 2014 began pursuit of a statement of GLP compliance.

“The GLP certification complements the ORETO accreditation and allows field studies to be undertaken that generate data by which the hazards and risks to users, consumers and third parties, including the environment, can be assessed. GLP helps assure regulatory authorities that data submitted are a true reflection of the results obtained during the study and can therefore be relied upon when making risk/safety assessments.

“As the non statutory levy body which is the UK’s centre of excellence for peas and beans, our continuing investment both in equipment and staff training for our trials programmes and laboratory facilities, ensures that PGRO continues to be recognised as providing authoritative, up to date information and project work based on solid, reliable research,” adds Jim Scrimshaw.
