Australia - Latest variety information available on National Variety Trials website

Australia
December 15, 2014

Grain growers making decisions about what crop varieties to grow in 2015 can obtain new, independent information by visiting the National Variety Trials (NVT) website.

NVT is a national program, supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), which conducts comparative crop variety testing using standardised methods for trial management and data generation, collection and dissemination.

Neale Sutton, of Australian Crop Accreditation System Limited, which manages the NVT program, said 2014 trial results were being progressively uploaded to the NVT website www.nvtonline.com.au and most WA results would be available by the end of the 2014 calendar year.

“This information will include trial results for new crop varieties relevant to WA, including the wheat varieties Harper, Hydra, Supreme, Trojan, and Zen, and barley varieties Alestar, Charger, Compass, Granger, LaTrobe, Litmus and Maltstar,” he said.

“Results for new canola, chickpea, lupin, oat and lentil varieties are also available.”

Mr Sutton said that along with yield and grain quality information, the NVT website captured individual trial site characteristics and provided commercial variety information and disease resistance ratings.

He said new educational videos were now featured on the website providing information about the program and how to use NVT variety performance tools.

“Another NVT website feature that remains popular is the Google Map delivery system which enables all crop specific information to be delivered to the user ‘at a site near you’,” he said.

Twitter users can also keep abreast of NVT developments by following NVT on Twitter at @NVT_Online
