7th ThermoSeed facility opens to meet increasing demand for INCOTEC’s sustainable seed disinfection technology

Eslöv, Sweden
15 January 2015

Kenneth Alness Managing Director INCOTEC Sweden

On January 12th a state-of-the-art ThermoSeed facility was opened  in Eslöv, Sweden, by the Swedish agricultural cooperative Lantmännen. This facility is the second in Sweden and the seventh in the world. The new facility will meet the increasing demand for this innovative disinfection method that not only eradicates harmful pathogens but also boosts germination vigor and results in more uniform and faster establishment in the field. The highly effective patented technology, owned by the Dutch based seed enhancement company INCOTEC, uses no added substances which means a reduction in the amount of chemicals used in agriculture. It is an effective disinfection suitable for both conventional and organic farming.

The process, uses only hot humid air and strictly regulated parameters. After treatment there is no drying phase needed meaning ThermoSeed treated seeds can be packed immediately. The seeds are sound and healthy and can be stored as any other seeds and retain a normal shelf life.

The technology was first introduced for cereals in Sweden in 2006. To date, more than 100,000 tons of grain have been processed with ThermoSeed in Scandinavia. This represents 500,000 ha of agricultural production. Having acquired ownership of this technology in 2008/10, INCOTEC has further developed ThermoSeed capabilities to include disinfection of rice and vegetable seeds. INCOTEC is actively introducing ThermoSeed in Europe, North America, Brazil and Japan and expects that a large number of facilities will be opened in the coming years.

Kenneth Alness, Managing Director of INCOTEC Sweden; “We are seeing increasing demand for ThermoSeed and this new facility will help meet the needs of the Swedish market, but there is a great amount of interest in many parts of the world right now and we expect this will lead to further expansion of the technology”. This interest was confirmed by many of the international guests present at the inauguration.

Sven-Erik Bucht, Swedish Minister for Rural Affairs opens the new ThermoSeed facility in Eslöv, Sweden.

The Swedish Minister for Rural Affairs, Sven-Erik Bucht, who officially opened the new plant, praised the success of ThermoSeed, saying that it ‘hit the mark’ in answering the demand for a disinfection method that is safe for the environment without compromising effectivity.
