USA - New Capture 3RIVE 3D insecticide from FMC registered for use with 3RIVE 3D in-furrow delivery system

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
February 26, 2015

Capture® 3RIVE 3D™ in-furrow corn insecticide from FMC has received EPA registration for use with the new 3RIVE 3D™ ultra-low volume, in-furrow delivery system. The 3RIVE 3D system allows growers to treat up to 500 acres in one fill, using less than one-tenth the liquid carrier volume typically required to treat the same acreage.

Capture 3RIVE 3D insecticide, a restricted use pesticide, provides protection from corn rootworms as well as the seed and seedling insect complex including: wireworms, grubs, seedcorn maggots and cutworms. Capture 3RIVE 3D insecticide is also an excellent addition to an integrated strategy for management of Bt resistant corn rootworm.

Capture 3RIVE 3D insecticide is the first crop protection product for use with the new delivery system. FMC is working on future opportunities for combining multiple active ingredients including insecticides, fungicides and biostimulants.

The patent-pending 3RIVE 3D application system precisely combines the specially formulated crop protection product with an ultra-low volume of water and expands the mixture up to 50 times into a three-dimensional foam, providing a continuous Zone of Protection for the seed. Just 40 ounces of solution is applied per acre. In the case of Capture 3RIVE 3D, 8 ounces of formulated insecticide is combined with 32 ounces of water per acre for the standard corn rootworm rate.

Capture 3RIVE 3D insecticide was tested in research trials across eight states and with six universities in 2014. In trials with non-rootworm-traited corn, Capture 3RIVE 3D insecticide increased corn yields by an average of 14.7 bu/A compared to untreated checks and yielded 4 bu/A more than the competitive standard corn rootworm treatment (see bar graph below). Research trials will be expanded to 11 states in 2015.

“With Capture® 3RIVE 3D™ in-furrow insecticide, you can eliminate most soil pests before they have a chance to injure developing seedlings. Without injury, stand count improves and robust roots can deliver the nutrients and water needed to maximize yields,” says Bob Hooten, FMC technical support manager for the Midwest.

“Capture 3RIVE 3D insecticide provides corn growers with an additional tool to protect their seed investment and maximize yield potential while increasing the number of acres they can plant in a day. Growers are able to treat up to 500 acres without having to reload product or water,” notes Hooten.

3RIVE 3D formulated products will be sold to growers through the FMC network of qualified Star Retailers. The 3RIVE 3D application system is available through Emerge Application Solutions on a limited basis in 2015.

Capture 3RIVE 3D insecticide, Force 3G insecticide and Aztec G insecticide are restricted use pesticides.
