The Genie is in the bottle

France
April 13, 2015

The Genie is in the Bottle

LCS Genie is the first malting barley to be marketed under the LCS brand. Originally bred by Limagrain Europe, it was rated satisfactory in both 2012 and 2013 pilot scale evaluations by the American Malt Barley Association. Currently, LCS Genie is being evaluated at the plant scale by more than one dozen craft brewing operations in the US, with malt produced by Great Western Malting in Vancouver, WA. With good levels of protein and extract, LCS Genie has an excellent profile for all malt styles of beer, but could also be used by traditional domestic adjunct-style brewing operations.

Agronomically, the standout feature of LCS Genie is its yield potential. During the past 3 years of testing, it has impressed both plant breeders and growers with its ability to keep pace with, and at times, outyield leading feed barley varieties currently being grown in the Pacific Northwest. LCS Genie also has short, stiff straw, making it an excellent choice for malt barley growers utilizing high input management strategies.
