In Geneve UPOV organises from May 4 till May 8 a train the trainer course with support from USPTO (the United States patent office).
The 23 participants from 20 countries are trained in presentation skills. Also the entire UPOV repertoire of training tools is critically reviewed and checked for errors and omissions. This leads to interesting discussions because the situation in the countries (from Laos to Jamaica, from Germany to Ghana and from Bolivia to the Netherlands) show big differences.
Representatives of CIOPORA, ISF, WIPO, CropLife, WFO and the US Patent Office provide introductions to discuss.
From Naktuinbouw Kees van Ettekoven (head of the Variety Testing Department) participates. He offers three presentations on the experiences in the Netherlands with UPOV trainings, on the use of molecular techniques and on the experiences of a national Plant Breeders' Rights office into a regional (CPVO) system. An intens week with positive effects both for the participants and UPOV.

UPOV organiseert van 4 t/m 8 mei in Geneve een cursus train the trainer met steun van USPTO (het Amerikaanse patentbureau).
De 23 deelnemers uit 20 landen worden getraind in presentatie skills, maar ook het gehele UPOV repertoire aan training hulpmiddelen wordt kritisch doorgenomen en gecontroleerd op fouten en ontbrekingen. Dit leidt tot interessante discussies omdat de situatie in de landen (van Laos tot Jamaica, van Duitsland tot Ghana en van Bolivia tot Nederland) grote verschillen laten zien.
Vertegenwoordigers van CIOPORA, ISF, WIPO, Croplife, WFO en de USA Patent office verzorgen tijdens de training inleidingen om over te discussiëren.
Vanuit Naktuinbouw neemt Kees van Ettekoven (hoofd afdeling Rassenonderzoek) deel. Hij verzorgt drie inleidingen over de ervaringen in Nederland met UPOV-trainingen, over het gebruik van moleculaire technieken en over de ervaringen van een nationaal station in een regionaal (CPVO-)systeem.
Een intensieve week met positieve gevolgen zowel voor de deelnemers als voor UPOV.
