USDA/APHIS makes available draft documents for GE corn and cotton

Washington, DC, USA
May 22, 2015

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is making available for public review and comment a draft environmental assessment (EA) and preliminary plant pest risk assessment (PPRA) following a petition received from the Monsanto Company. The petition is seeking deregulation for corn genetically engineered (GE) for protection against corn rootworm (CRW) and resistance to the herbicide, glyphosate.

USDA APHIS is also announcing today the availability for review of a preliminary regulatory determination, draft EA, preliminary PPRA and preliminary finding of no significant impact (FONSI) in response to a Dow AgroSciences (DAS) petition to deregulate cotton genetically engineered for resistance to the herbicides 2,4-D and glufosinate.

These documents will be available for public review and comments will be accepted for 30 days upon publication in the Federal Register.

The documents can be accessed on the News and Information page of the BRS website at http://www.aphis.usda.gov/biotechnology/news.shtml.
