ICAR-Directorate of Seed Research (ICAR-DSR), Mau in collaboration with Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative Limited, Gurgaon, organized two day training programme entitled “Seed Quality, its Control and Management with reference to Kharif crops (Rice and Soybean)” during 11-12 June, 2015. The training programme was started with ICAR song.
Dr S. Rajendra Prasad, Project Director, ICAR-DSR, who emphasized role of IFFDC in seed security and Dr. H. C. Gena Sr. Project Manager, IFFDC Gurgaon, highlighted the mandate, activities and achievements of IFFDC and also mentions the reasons for planning such a training programme. Dr R.K. Chaudhury, Consultant (Seed Development), IFFDC Gurgaon, stressed upon importance of seed quality and seed quality assurance in the country. A total of twenty two participants (specially field staff of IFFDC working at its different centre’s) from various states viz., Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab were participated in training programme.
In the Training programme encompass various lectures on different aspects which includes general principles of seed production technology, quality seed production technology in rice and soybean, Principles and procedures of seed certification, genetic purity testing in seed lots, improved agronomic practices for seed production, management of seed borne diseases, storage insect, seed quality enhancement technology for rice and soybean, seed sampling, physical seed purity testing, economics of seed quality production and aspects of seed processing, packing and legislation including Seed Act, 2004 with practical hands on were delivered by respective resource persons. A lecture on scope of micro organisms for increasing productivity of seed crop was delivered by respective
resource person from ICAR-NBAIM, Mau. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. T. N. Tiwari, Sr. Scientist (Plant Physiology), ICAR-DSR, Mau.
