John Innes Centre hosts first Women of the Future Conference

Norwich, United Kingdom
July 24, 2015

In April, the John Innes Centre hosted the first Women of the Future Conference, at which female students from 20 schools across Norfolk and Suffolk heard inspirational talks designed to make it clear that girls can make it in STEMM careers.

The students heard speeches from high profile women in science, including Chief Executive of BBSRC Professor Jackie Hunter and Space Scientist and BBC presenter Dr Maggie Aderin-Peacock. They also met with role models from across the country, at various stages of their careers, who shared their STEMM career experiences.

One of the conferences’ sponsors, Intel, provided an all-female film crew to capture the impact of the event on a group of girls from Flegg High School in Martham.

The conference was sponsored by the John Innes Centre, Norfolk County Council, the University of East Anglia, BBSRC, the Society of Biology, Plant Biotechnology Ltd, ResNet, and Intel
