Farmers from all corners of Israel participate in Hazera Seeds' Open Field Day

Israel
July 30, 2015

Hundreds of farmers from all corners of Israel participated in Hazera company’s Open Field Day, held on the 8th and 9th of July 2015. This agricultural celebration, that has been taking place annually for 12 years, was held this year in Moshav Nir Chen in southern Israel, and included a variety of Hazera crops developed for open fields, as well as a selection of greenhouse tomato varieties.

The Hazera team presented to growers the varieties that the company has developed especially for open field cultivation, and conducted tours of the fields to enable participants to see the varieties up close and learn about their growing conditions. The varieties that were showcased in the open day included tomato, pepper, melon, watermelon, brassica, lettuce, eggplant varieties and more.

According to Itzik Ezra, The Commercial Manager of the Israeli Market at Hazera: “This annual meeting, which was held in Nir Chen this year, enables us to keep in touch and maintain our ties with the growers, and to introduce them to our range of the latest innovations in the field. Additionally, this is an opportunity for us to receive feedback about their satisfaction with the varieties, as well as their suggestions for improvements. Hazera works constantly and tirelessly in an effort to develop new varieties that will meet the very highest standards, for the benefit of our customers”.

What’s new?

During the Open Day, Hazera showcased several new and surprising varieties:

Puma Personal watermelon – the variety was developed in Israel by Eran Yossov, a Watermelon Breeder at Hazera, based on a concept suitable for the 21st century: shopping convenience, storage ease, suitability for families and healthy consumption, guaranteed quality with no waste of half of the fruit. Puma is a groundbreaking watermelon, both in its excellent quality and fine flavor. Puma has an intense red color, high brix (sugar content), crunchy texture and high uniformity. It is circular in shape, and weighs from 2 to 2.5 kilograms.

Puma variety was developed specifically for the American market, where personal watermelons comprise one third of the total watermelon consumption. Puma’s outstanding qualities are the primary forces driving awareness for the variety among retailers, growers, and the final consumers. In Europe, several leading retail chains have expressed great interest in Puma, due to its outstanding quality.

Tudela Eggplant – Black Queen type, a wonderful eggplant – sweeter than ordinary eggplants and absorbs less oil! The Tudela has an oval-heart shaped fruit, and is suitable for growing in open fields / grow houses.
See you next year!
