- Young adults from 33 countries discuss and elaborate on individual solutions to the Summit’s theme “how to feed a hungry planet?”
- Outcome of the event is the “Canberra Youth Ag Declaration” to be presented at the UN Committee on World Food Security in Rome in October
By 2050, more than 9 billion people will live on our planet. This fact results in a dilemma: less available agricultural land to produce food for this growing world population. Ultimately, this scenario leads to the overarching question on how to feed this hungry planet. That’s why, from 24-27 August in Canberra, Australia, Bayer and the Australian youth organization Future Farmers Network bring together 100 young thought leaders, aged 18-25, from 33 countries for the Youth-Ag Summit to exchange on the role science and modern agriculture play in feeding a hungry planet.
During the Summit, young leaders connect with each other, listen to inspirational speakers, exchange ideas in breakout sessions and experience agriculture during field trips. They make a pledge to develop local solutions for local conditions and act as agricultural ambassadors in their home countries.
Taking into account this pressing issue of the growing world population, interactive sessions during the Summit will focus on sustainability, leadership and innovation, largely shaped by the essay topics the delegates handed in during the application phase.

I hope to bring home lots of ideas to contribute to the advancement of my country."
The Summit provides a platform for young leaders to discuss challenges and develop solutions - small and large scale. This is reflected in the outcomes of the event. Personal commitments are expressed in the development of the "3 little things". These are individual challenges on food and agricultural issues which delegates want to address back home in their local communities. The other main outcome is the "Canberra Youth Ag Declaration", a global call for action to help solve the pressing issues in modern agriculture. The Declaration will be presented at the UN’s Committee on Food Security in Rome from 12-15 October where Bayer, as a member of the private sector mechanism, is hosting a side event.

- Die "Canberra Youth Ag Declaration" soll als Ergebnis des Gipfels im Oktober bei der Welternährungskonferenz der Vereinten Nationen in Rom vorgestellt werden
Bis 2050 werden mehr als 9 Milliarden Menschen die Erde bevölkern. Diese müssen alle ernährt werden, obwohl es immer weniger Anbaufläche für die Nahrungsmittelproduktion gibt. Kern dieses Dilemmas ist die Frage, wie das nachhaltig geschehen kann. Um diese Frage zu beantworten, bringen Bayer und die australische Landwirtschafts-Jugendorganisation Future Farmers Network (FFN) auf dem Youth-Ag Summit vom 24. bis zum 27. August 100 junge Vordenker aus 33 Ländern im Alter von 18 bis 25 Jahren zusammen. Die Abgesandten werden sich intensiv mit der Bedeutung von Wissenschaft und moderner Landwirtschaft für die Welternährung auseinandersetzen.
Auf dem Gipfel haben die jungen Abgesandten die Möglichkeit, Kontakte zu knüpfen, sich interessante Vorträge von Gastreferenten anzuhören sowie im Rahmen von Gruppenarbeiten Ideen auszutauschen und an Fachexkursionen teilzunehmen. Sie verpflichten sich, für die regionalen Bedingungen in ihrem Land entsprechende Lösungen zu erarbeiten und in ihrer jeweiligen Heimat als Agrar-Botschafter zu fungieren.
Vor dem Hintergrund der wachsenden Weltbevölkerung und der drängenden Probleme, die damit verbunden sind, liegt der Fokus der interaktiven Veranstaltungen auf Nachhaltigkeit, Führung und Innovation. Diese Themen wurden größtenteils in Essays bearbeitet, die die Abgesandten zuvor im Rahmen der Bewerbungsphase eingereicht hatten.

Amanda Kharisma aus Indonesien fügt hinzu: "Für mich ist das eine sehr wertvolle Erfahrung. Ich hoffe, dass ich viele Ideen mitnehmen und so zum Fortschritt in meinem Land beitragen kann."
Der Gipfel bietet jungen Vordenkern eine Plattform, um Herausforderungen zu diskutieren und Lösungen zu entwickeln - im kleinen wie im großen Rahmen. Dies soll sich in den Ergebnissen der Veranstaltung widerspiegeln. Das persönliche Engagement wird in der Entwicklung der "3 kleinen Dinge" festgehalten. Dabei handelt es sich um individuelle Herausforderungen zu Ernährungs- und landwirtschaftlichen Problemen, die die Delegierten zu Hause auf regionaler Ebene angehen wollen.
Ein weiteres wichtiges Ergebnis ist die "Canberra Youth Ag Declaration", ein weltweiter Aufruf, die drängenden Probleme der modernen Landwirtschaft anzugehen. Die Erklärung wird auf der Welternährungskonferenz der Vereinten Nationen vorgetragen, die vom 12. bis 15. Oktober in Rom stattfindet. Bayer veranstaltet dort als Vertreter des privaten Sektors einen Neben-Event.
