USA - Bayer CropScience now accepting applications for third annual Plant Health Scholarship - Two GCSAA member superintendents to receive $2,500 award to advance education in plant health

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA
September 8, 2015

Environmental Science, a division of Bayer CropScience LP, and the Environmental Institute for Golf (EIFG), the philanthropic arm of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), today announced that applications are now open for the third annual Healthy Turf, Healthy Tomorrow Plant Health Scholarship program. The program will award $2,500 scholarships to two top-ranking golf course superintendents who are looking to advance their plant health education.

“Bayer is committed to fostering plant health education and is fully dedicated to supporting superintendents who share a similar passion,” said David Wells, golf business manager for the Bayer turf and ornamentals business. “Programs like the Plant Health Scholarship help ensure that tomorrow’s superintendents have the applicable knowledge and the best tools available to optimize plant health on their courses and to stay abreast of the latest challenges and innovations affecting the turf industry.”

Applications must be submitted by October 10. Recipients may use the scholarship to attend a local, regional or national educational conference or enroll in a continuing education program at an institution of higher learning. The Plant Health Scholarship is one of four educational opportunities available to superintendents through Healthy Turf, Healthy Tomorrow each year. Superintendents who are interested in applying can visit the Healthy Turf, Healthy Tomorrow page at www.backedbybayer.com/plant-health-scholarship. Applicants must be employed as a golf course superintendent, be a Class A or superintendent member (SM) of GCSAA, and enrolled in My Bayer Rewards customer loyalty program. Applicants must be employed within the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. Current employees of Bayer or GCSAA, along with their children, are not eligible to apply. The Healthy Turf, Healthy Tomorrow Selection Panel will choose two scholarship recipients based on his/her essay responses, participation in the GCSAA and the My Bayer Rewards program.

The Plant Health Scholarship is a component of the Bayer Healthy Turf, Healthy Tomorrow program, a multi-faceted initiative in collaboration with the EIFG aimed at advancing plant health research and education for superintendents to help ensure the health of their courses – and the industry – for the future. In addition to the Plant Health Scholarship, Healthy Turf, Healthy Tomorrow also includes Webinars, Demonstration Courses, and the Plant Health Academy.

About Healthy Turf, Healthy Tomorrow
To fund Healthy Turf, Healthy Tomorrow, Bayer has invested a percentage of Stressgard® Formulation Technology (FT) product sales each year – a minimum commitment of $300,000 since 2013. Funds generated through the program are dedicated to the EIFG to support research, education, advocacy and scholarship initiatives executed by GCSAA.

Bayer has been developing products with plant health attributes for nearly 20 years, starting with the origin of Stressgard FT, a technology now featured in Bayer fungicides including Tartan®, Interface®,
Signature™ Xtra Stressgard, Fiata® Stressgard and Mirage® Stressgard. Stressgard Formulation Technology helps fortify natural plant defenses and promote plant growth.
