Dale Baker appointed new Chair of the Board of the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics

Adelaide, Australia
27 May 2010

The Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics announced today the appointment of Dale Baker as the new Chair of the Board of Directors.
‘Dale has been a Director on the ACPFG board for 18 months and we are delighted that he will continue to work with us, now in the role of Chair of the Board,’ said ACPFG CEO, Professor Peter Langridge.

Mr Baker replaces Nick Begakis AM who was Chair of the ACPFG board for over 7 years.

‘On behalf of the management and staff, I would like to heartily thank Nick for his contribution and the direction he has given to ACPFG during its formative years,’ he said.

Mr Baker was a grower in Western Australia for over 40 years and has had a long association with grain research. He was a panel member of the Grains Research and Development Corporation for 11 years with five of those as Chair of the Western Panel. He is the Chair of InterGrain Pty Ltd and is a member of the University of Western Australia Albany Foundation.

Mr Baker has also been a Director of the CRC for Weed Management Systems and Chairman of the Australian Government’s Managing Climate Variability Program. He spent time in the US, Canada, South Africa, Europe and Argentina where he studied production systems.

‘I am looking forward to this new opportunity; it is a very exciting time for cereal research and I look forward to building upon the great foundations built by Mr Begakis”, Mr Baker said of his appointment.
