British Sugar Newark Area Managers visit Germains' United Kingdom facility

United Kingdom
October 29, 2015

On 26th October, Germains Seed Technology welcomed British Sugar Newark Area Managers to visit our UK based site in King’s Lynn. The visit was an excellent opportunity to meet our experts and showcase our local production and quality control facilities, where we are committed to processing local Sugar Beet for the UK Sugar Industry.

Touring a Seed Technology Facility

The day began with a presentation by our Commercial Development Manager, Tessa Seymour, exploring the value that Germains deliver to the UK Seed Account with our 140 year experience within the industry. The presentation was followed by a tour of Germains’ seed technology factories, demonstrating our sugar beet production process in action. Our visitors got the chance to follow the journey of the sugar beet seed through Germains factory from the incoming raw sugar beet seed through seed priming process, pelleting, packing and to despatch.

Seed Priming and Quality Control

In addition, guests were toured through Germains Quality Control facility.  The purpose of this portion of the tour was to provide our guests with an understanding of the quality control standards Germains follows to ensure the highest quality products are delivered to our customers. The facility tour concluded with a preview of our seed priming facilities that included an introduction to Germains unique germination testing technology, Icarus. The Icarus is an automated system that captures images of germinating sugar beet seeds to provide a rapid assessment of germination speed.

The day was a great success, providing a clear understanding of the production process and getting to know the team.

According to our guest Matt Booth, Newark Area Manager, “I did thoroughly enjoy the tours I feel [it] has made a massive difference for relationships and perceptions of Germains.”

We would like to thank British Sugar Newark Area Managers for visiting Germains Seed Technology facilities and look forward to welcoming other Industry Partners to our site!
