Cibus continues commercial growth and bolsters position in the canola industry with staff appointments

San Diego, California, USA
April 4, 2016

Cibus, an industry leader in non-transgenic breeding and precision gene editing, continues to gain traction in the commercial canola sales market and is expanding its commercial work force to reflect that success.

To properly facilitate the growing demand for SU CanolaTM, the company has promoted Clint Dotterer into the newly created position of Product and Sales Manager.  Dotterer brings 15 years of professional expertise in the seed industry to his new challenge and holds a PCA Certification and a degree in Crop Science from the University of Illinois. Dotterer was a key player in the successful launch of SU Canola (sulfonylurea tolerant). Dotterer is based in San Diego.

Scott Anderson joins Cibus in the recently instituted position of Seed Sales Specialist.  He is based in Fargo, ND, and is tasked with positioning Cibus’ SU Canola to drive sales results and to expand long-term relationships with growers and Cibus distributors such as J.R. Simplot, Wilbur-Ellis, and others.  Having completed a 30-year career at Dow AgroSciences before joining Cibus, Anderson has already added significant experience and deep understanding of products, processes, and services.

Garret Groves joins Cibus as a Sales Agronomist with the responsibility of providing agronomic services to growers and is directly working with Cibus industry partners such as Cargill.  Cargill West Fargo is offering growers premium market opportunities for SU Canola due to Cibus’ non-transgenic canola status to meet the growing demand for non-GMO oil. Groves is located in Devils Lake, ND, and arrives at Cibus with degrees in both Wildlife Management and Crop Production (with an emphasis in Weed Science). His professional experience as an industry agronomist leaves him extremely qualified in fertilization, seeding, pesticides (and their labeling), spraying and soil sampling. Groves is a Certified Crop Advisor in North Dakota and is also a certified chemical dealer, commercial applicator and seed treater.

“Cibus, using its proprietary Rapid Trait Development Systems (RTDS), has created a platform in canola to develop many high value non-transgenic traits,” said Dave Voss, Vice President of Commercial Development at Cibus. “Cibus is investing significantly toward canola trait development and canola breeding and is excited to deliver many new hybrids to the market over the coming years. To facilitate this effort, we are pleased to expand our commercial presence by adding these new positions. In these new roles, Dotterer, Anderson and Groves will provide dynamic leadership for Cibus’ sales team and will continue to promote SU Canola, as well as other Cibus products as they enter into the market.”

SU Canola is the first of many traits targeted for canola,” added Jim Radtke, Senior Vice President of Product Development, Cibus. “In addition to herbicide tolerance, RTDS can be used to deliver a variety of value added traits such as healthier oils and tolerance to the major diseases affecting canola.”

About SU CanolaTM

Cibus’ SU Canola system eliminates the issue of glyphosate tolerant volunteer canola in soybean rotations; SU herbicide provides effective, economical, and easy-to-use weed control that helps manage glyphosate resistant weed issues; and its non-transgenic status provides growers with the opportunity to participate in premium market opportunities through Cargill West Fargo. SU Canola is provided through a partnership between Cibus and Rotam. Cibus using RTDS technology developed the SU trait while Rotam a fast growing international company in the crop protection industry provided the SU herbicide label marketed under the brand name Draft Herbicide™. Information about SU Canola is available online at www.cibuscanola.com.

About Cibus

Cibus (www.cibus.com) is a leading precision gene editing company with a unique, patented technology for naturally modifying cell functions. With over 300 patents and patent applications, Cibus is a technology leader in the silent revolution in the development of non-transgenic traits. Its non-transgenic technology enables it access to global multibillion-dollar markets in agriculture, specialty chemicals, and human health. Utilizing its patented RTDS™ (Rapid Trait Development System) technology, Cibus offers a disruptive alternative to previous transgenic approaches. To date, international regulatory authorities have deemed traits from Cibus’ RTDS technology to be indistinguishable from mutagenesis associated with normal breeding and thus have determined that these traits will be globally acceptable. Cibus has a worldwide presence, with subsidiaries in both Europe and North America, including Nucelis, its bio-industrials division, and a state-of-the-art research and development center in San Diego, California. Cibus’ core purpose is to lead the transition to sustainable non-transgenic agricultural and industrial products and improved human health by harvesting nature’s natural diversity.
