The Seed Biotechnology
Center at the University of California Davis
recognizes University
Research Partner
Dr.
Bryce W. Falk
Dr. Bryce Falk is a Professor of Plant
Pathology in the Department of Plant Pathology at UC
Davis and the Director of the Biosafety Level 3-P
Contained Research Facility (CRF). The CRF provides a
secure environment for research on emerging and invasive
plant pests. These exotic pests, including arthropods,
plant pathogens, nematodes, and weeds, pose huge
potential threats for California agriculture and the
national economy, and threaten natural ecosystems.
Dr. Falk’s lab is involved in studying the molecular
biology, cell biology and molecular genetics of many
plant viruses. He has worked with many of California’s
commodity groups and in the past developed the
serological-based indexing procedure used to screen
lettuce seed for Lettuce mosaic virus. Some of his
recent efforts include developing and evaluating
biotechnological approaches for controlling plant pests
and pathogens. Recent collaborative projects he has been
involved in include:
-
Incidence of and developing screening methods for
disease resistance in cucurbits with Limagrain and
the Melon Research Board
-
Analysis of tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) with
the California Tomato Research Institute and UC IPM
program
-
UC
Liasion Officer with the California Fresh Carrot
Advisory Board
