The Seed Biotechnology
Center at the University of California Davis
recognizes University
Research Partner
Dr.
Charles S. Gasser
Dr. Charles Gasser is a Professor in the
Department Molecular & Cellular Biology and is a
secondary member of the Department of Plant Biology at
UC Davis.
Dr. Gasser’s research focuses on the molecular and
genetic basis of ovule development and ovule evolution.
Recent projects he has been involved in include:
-
Studies on genes regulating ovule development using
Arabidopsis thaliana as a model system,
funded by the National Science Foundation
-
The
developmental basis of the evolution of ovule form
among diverse flowering plants
-
Production of seedless tomatoes in collaboration
with researches in the Department of Plant Sciences
at U.C. Davis
-
The
molecular basis of seedless fruit in Annona (custard
apple/sugar apple) in collaboration with researchers
at Estación Experimental la Mayora, CSIC, Malaga,
Spain
Dr. Gasser
is very active in the Arabidopsis research
community as the moderator of a newsgroup, a member of
the database board of directors, and administrator of a
grant aiding international collaboration on this
organism.
