Dr.
Jim Hill
Dr. Jim Hill is a Professor and
Extension Specialist in the Department of Plant Sciences
and the Associate Dean for International Programs in the
College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at
the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Hill’s research and education programs focus on rice
production including water, weed and fertility
management and the compatibility of these practices with
environmental stewardship. He also collaborates with the
California rice breeders and UCCE Advisors leading the
statewide cultivar evaluation program. Dr. Hill has
recently been involved in several collaborative projects
in both rice production and international programs
including:

Water
use efficiency in Sacramento Valley rice production
supported by the California Department of Water
Resources
-
Research on rice variety adaption and cultural
practices with the California Cooperative Rice
Research Foundation and supported by the Rice
Research Board
-
Alternative rice production systems for weed
resistance management and water quality supported by
the State Water Board and the Rice Research Board
-
The
USDA-Iraqi agricultural extension revitalization
project in collaboration with Texas A&M, Utah State,
New Mexico State and Washington State universities
and supported by USDA FAS
-
Advancing Afghan Agriculture: Rebuilding the
curriculum of Afghan agricultural universities in
collaboration with Purdue and Cornell universities
and supported by USAID
In
addition, Dr. Hill is a previous Chair of the Department
of Agronomy and Range Science at UC Davis and spent
three years at the International Rice Research Institute
(IRRI) in the Philippines where he served as Program
Leader for Irrigated Rice and Head of the Division of
Crop, Soil and Water Sciences. He is also a Fellow of
the American Society of Agronomy and the Crop Science
Society of America.
