Dr.
Daniel Potter
Dr. Daniel Potter is a Professor in the
Department of Plant Sciences at the University of
California, Davis.
Dr. Potter’s research is primarily focused on angiosperm
systematics, emphasizing the taxonomy, diversity and
phylogenetic relationships among fruit and nut crops and
their wild relatives. Additional interests include
ethnobotany and the evolution of domestication. Several
collaborative projects Dr. Potter has recently been
involved in include:

Development of reliable molecular markers for
walnut, in partnership with the Walnut Marketing
Board and the California Department of Food and
Agriculture

Phylogenetic relationships across Rosaceae and
systematic studies within particular lineages such
as subfamily Dryadoideae, tribe Spiraeeae and the
genus Prunus. This work has been supported by grants
from the National Science Foundation

Phylogeny and origins of cultivated species of the
tropical genus Chrysophyllum (Sapotaceae) s
In
addition, Dr. Potter is Director of the UC Davis Center
for Plant Diversity, which houses the campus herbarium,
and he is the lead principal investigator of a large
international collaborative project “Biodiversity
surveys in Indonesia and discovery of health and energy
solutions,” funded by NIH and USDA.
