The Seed Biotechnology
Center at the University of California Davis
recognizes University
Research Partner
Dr.
Johan Six
Dr. Johan Six is an Associate Professor
in the Department of Plant Sciences and runs the
Agroecology Lab at the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Six’s research is primarily focused on the feedbacks
between ecosystem management, global change, and
biogeochemical cycling. More specifically, his lab
studies the complex interactions between soil, plants,
soil biota, and the carbon and nitrogen cycles in
agricultural, grassland, and forest ecosystems. His lab
uses an integrated approach of field sampling,
laboratory analyses, and simulation modeling to
investigate whole system dynamics at the plot, landscape
and regional scale.
Several collaborative projects Dr. Six has recently been
involved in include:
-
Control of vertical soil variation on soil carbon
dioxide production and emission with the support of
the Kearney Foundation
-
Chemical controls on soil carbon saturation behavior
with the Department of Energy
-
Assessing practices and influencing policy to
mitigate nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from
California Agriculture with the Packard Foundation
-
Sustainable, environmentally friendly, and
cost-effective production of biomass for energy
efficient biofuels in California with Chevron
