Dr.
Daniel A. Sumner
Dr. Sumner is the Frank H. Buck Jr.
Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource
Economics at the University of California, Davis and the
Director of the University of California Agricultural
Issues Center (AIC).
The AIC provides broadly based, objective information on
a range of critical, emerging agricultural issues and
their significance for the economy and natural resources
through studies, conferences and publications. The
issues are often global, but the implications for
agriculture and natural resources in California are
emphasized.
Dr. Sumner’s research focuses on agricultural policy,
particularly on the consequences of farm and trade
policy on the economy. His current and recent projects
include:

Traceability, liability and incentives for food
safety and quality

California’s International Agricultural Exports

Effect
of climate change on prices of grapes and the
competitive position of California winegrape regions

Economic implications of alternative housing for
laying hens

International trade aspects of biofuels markets

Implications of milk marketing order policy
Dr. Sumner
is the former Assistant Secretary for Economics at USDA,
has served as chair of the International Agricultural
Trade Research Consortium and is a Fellow of the
American Agricultural Economics Association.
