INCOTEC launches new sustainable Thermoseed disinfection for onion seeds

Enkhuizen, The Netherlands
December 31, 2014

INCOTEC Europe announces the introduction of ThermoSeed™ for onion seeds, a method of seed disinfection which frees the seeds from harmful fungi and other microorganisms. This sustainable technique uses nothing more than hot humid air and with this method no drying phase is needed. After years of successful disinfection of grain and rice using this method, INCOTEC has developed the technology further and it is now available in the vegetable sector for onion seeds.

Harmful pathogens are selectively controlled with no adverse effect on germination or shelf life. Through pre-treatment tests and precisely controlled parameters the process is optimized for each individual seed lot. The results of testing after ThermoSeed disinfection consistently show good quality.

Erika den Daas, Director Sales & Marketing, INCOTEC Group: “ThermoSeed has well and truly proven its qualities. First in grains and rice and now in the vegetable sector. A disinfection method that has no negative effect on the quality of the seed is a huge asset to the seed industry in times when legislation and regulations are becoming increasingly stricter within Europe and beyond. We are delighted to now offer this exciting technology for onion seeds.“

INCOTEC is currently working on the further development of the ThermoSeed technology so that it will become available for a broader range of vegetables.
