Soybean Checkoff’s retooled website serves and informs U.S. soybean farmers

St. Louis, Missouri, USA
March 16, 2011

The United Soybean Board (USB) has retooled its website, www.unitedsoybean.org, to sharpen its focus on meeting the needs of the nearly 600,000 farmers who grow soybeans in the United States.

The website features original articles and video reports that tell the many stories of U.S. soybean farmers and their soybean checkoff, whose mission it is to support U.S. soybean farmers by ensuring U.S. soy is of the highest quality and most competitive in the world.

“U.S. soybean farmers are the most productive in the global marketplace,” said USB Chairman Marc Curtis, a soybean farmer from Leland, Miss. “The redesigned website offers U.S. soybean farmers easy access to the information that helps them run their operations as productively and efficiently as possible.”

The website’s original articles explore nearly every facet of the soybean industry: its critical role in U.S. animal agriculture, its expanding markets globally, its increasing importance as a primary feedstock for biofuel and more.

The site also offers free tools such as the Soybean Quality Toolbox, which helps U.S. farmers select top-performing soybean varieties in their own areas; the Fieldprint Calculator, which enables farmers to measure their operations’ impact on sustainability; and other free, practical resources.

USB is made up of 69 farmer-directors who oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff on behalf of all U.S. soybean farmers. Checkoff funds are invested in the areas of animal utilization, human utilization, industrial utilization, industry relations, market access and supply. As stipulated in the Soybean Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service has oversight responsibilities for USB and the soybean checkoff.
