Weed control on non-crop areas outside the paddock and on the perimeter of crops can sometimes be overlooked.
Weeds often invade from the perimeters of paddocks, so an important integrated weed management (IWM) tactic is to keep fencelines and paddock boundaries free of invading species.
A Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) sponsored webinar on the topic of ‘Weed control on paddock boundaries and fencelines’ will be held on Tuesday, June 10.
Hosted by ICAN, the webinar is targeted at grain growers and advisers throughout Australia and will be presented by University of Adelaide Associate Professor Chris Preston.
“Managing weeds on farms requires more than just a ‘see them in the crop and spray them’ approach,” ICAN senior consultant Mark Congreve said.
“Long term sustainable weed management requires an IWM strategy using a range of different tools, not just to manage the weeds that you can see but to prevent them getting into the paddock in the first place.
“The webinar will address strategies for managing paddock boundaries and fencelines to reduce the impact of weeds. The webinar will also cover topics such as how weeds move into a paddock and how they adapt to the farming systems within it.”
The start time for the free webinar is: Western Australia: 1pm; South Australia: 2.30pm; and Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania: 3pm.
To participate, use a laptop, tablet or personal computer to watch and listen to a 30 minute presentation, which will be followed by about 15 minutes for questions.
