Seed coatings with adjusted release profile

Wageningen, The Netherlands
December 16, 2014

A controlled-release formulation protects germinating seeds against a high pesticide dose. Controlled release of active ingredients may also substantially elongate the period of good performance of the pesticide. Seed scientists are also interested in a delay of the activity of seed-provided pesticides till the plant has the desired growth stage. Adjuvants & Formulations has conducted a quick scan covering recently published or patent pending seed coating formulations with adjusted release profile.

The number of (patent) publications about seed coating formulations with a controlled, sustained, or delayed release of active ingredients has increased in recent years. Worldwide, researchers are working on such formulations of car-bendazim, neonicotinoids, tebuconazole, thiram and other more or less known active ingredients. These formulations often comprise micro-encapsulation, but complexation with cyclodextrins and other approaches are being explored as well. Nano-based formulations are a relatively new member of the family of controlled-release seed coating formulations. Adjuvants & Formulations has conducted a quick scan covering recently published reports and patent applications on seed coating formulations with adjusted release profile. This special issue can be purchased and downloaded via the website.

Adjuvants & Formulations – former Adjuvant Newsletter – is a bimonthly newsletter for agchem specialists. In its ten year anniversary this digital newsletter is well-established as special interest medium for formulators and adjuvant specialists who want to follow the developments in their field. Furthermore Adjuvants & Formulations presents in every issue an overview of the recent patent literature. In the current November/December issue, the newsletter published news about the permeability of seedcoats to systemic seed treatments, a novel herbicide delivery system, patent pending OD formulations, new granular formulations and an apparatus to formulate entomopathogenic fungi as biopesticides.
