Koppert's Cryptobug now even more effective against mealybugs

The Netherlands
January 23, 2015

Koppert Biological Systems has succeeded in improving the production process of the predatory beetle Cryptolaemus montrouzieri. Marketed under the name Cryptobug (containing adult beetles), the mealybugs' natural enemy now arrives on site in even better condition. This makes the Cryptobug even more effective than it already was.

Cryptolaemus montrouzieri is primarily used in large-scale mealybug infestations, in ornamentals, and vegetable crops. Furthermore, Cryptobug is also effective in outdoor crops in warmer regions; it can be used at temperatures starting from 16 °C. Changes to its production process mean that Koppert can deliver this beneficial on site in even better condition. A new package has been developed to keep the beetles in better condition during transport. These developments ensure that the beetles are ready to go; they can get straight to work as soon as they are released.

Permanent defence against mealybugs
Koppert also expects better egg laying out in the field. Not only can the population now maintain its numbers better, it can also offer a more permanent defence against mealybugs.

The improved product with its new packaging will be launched on the market in calendar week five.

Koppert also very recently introduced Cryptobug-L. Koppert's new product concerns the larval stages two and three of this predatory beetle, which is highly effective in combating mealybug hot-spots.
