USA - Bayer CropScience receives approval for new cotton and peanut insecticide - Velum Total provides wide spectrum, long-lasting control of nematodes and early season insects for better ROI

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA
February 11, 2015

Bayer CropScience announces the registration and introduction of Velum® Total insecticide/nematicide for the 2015 season. Velum Total delivers wide spectrum, long-lasting control of nematodes and early season insects in cotton and peanuts.

Velum Total promotes early season crop establishment by preventing nematode and insect damage and enhancing root health. Its strong residual performance on early season insects, such as thrips, can reduce the need for additional foliar sprays to control damaging insects. In university trials over multiple years, Velum Total provided greater yield response than the historical standard Temik® in both cotton and peanuts.

“Bayer CropScience is excited to offer growers another innovative crop management solution for southern row crops,” said Lee Hall, Bayer CropScience product manager. “Velum Total will give growers confidence that they are getting the best return on their early season investment for maximum yield at harvest. Velum Total has a unique ability to enhance early-season root health and plant growth while limiting damage from high-risk insects like thrips, aphids, leafhoppers and those yield robbing “hidden enemies,” the plant parasitic nematodes.”

Velum Total is applied in-furrow at-plant to protect and enhance early plant growth and to establish a strong crop. Because of its innovative formulation growers can adjust application rates based on pest pressure. Velum Total has been evaluated in a tankmix with a wide range of agricultural products, including peanut inoculates, without compatibility issues.

After a limited 2015 Southeast introduction, a full launch is expected in 2016 throughout the South from Texas to Virginia. Subject to EPA approval, Bayer CropScience anticipates that Velum Total uses will be expanded in 2016 to include potatoes, sweet potatoes, fruiting vegetables and cucurbits. Tobacco registration is expected throughout the South in 2017.
