Bayer CropScience introduces new Stoneville cotton variety with GlyTol and LibertyLink traits

USA

Source: The Agronomic insider, Bayer CropScience

Bayer CropScience introduces a new Stoneville® cotton variety for 2013 that offers growers across the Cotton Belt another tool to fight weed resistance and rotate herbicides on their farms. ST 4946GLB2 is the first Stoneville variety that offers multiple herbicide tolerance and is suited for all cotton growing regions. It is a GlyTol® LibertyLink® Genuity® Bollgard II® variety with a two-gene Bt trait. This stacked trait technology package helps protect crops against yield-stealing weeds and lepidopteran pests.

Herbicide flexibility
Growers now have the added benefit of herbicide flexibility and crop safety to full-labeled rates of Liberty® and glyphosate in a Stoneville variety. Herbicide and crop rotation are essential parts of Integrated Weed Management (IWM). Without an effective IWM plan, herbicides become unsuccessful, and the costs of weed control and yield loss increase.

ST 4946GLB2 is an early-medium maturing variety that offers root-knot nematode tolerance. It is easy to manage with moderately aggressive growth habits. While this new variety is ideal for farmland with hard-to-control weeds, all growers can benefit from its excellent yield potential and good fiber quality.

Regional relevance
ST 4946GLB2 is broadly adapted across all cotton-growing regions and has been tested extensively in large and small plots across the Cotton Belt through the Bayer CropScience Cotton Agronomic Performance (CAP) trials. These trials, which are managed by growers using their local management practices, provide real world yield and quality information, and help identify the best new varieties for the cottonseed market.
