In a very limited survey undertaken in 2014, strains of the fungus that causes blackleg were discovered that were tolerant to Jockey fungicide. To determine the full extent of the issue the GRDC are funding a larger national survey to determine the geographical spread of fungicide tolerance. 

During 2015 the GRDC will fund your 2014 canola stubble to be screened to determine if it is harbouring fungicide tolerant blackleg.

Get involved

1. Register your interest by emailing: BlacklegMGP@gmail.com and include the following details:

• Nearest town
• Canola cultivar sown in 2014
• Fungicides applied in 2014 – we need a range of applications e.g., no fungicide applied, Jockey, Impact-in-furrow, Jockey + Prosaro etc.

Once your email has been received we will email you the protocols and postal address for the stubble.

2. Collect 20 pieces of 2014 canola stubble and post to the address provided to you.

What will happen next

• Once we have received your email we will email you the protocols and postal address for the stubble. 
• Your stubble sample will be used to infect seedlings from Jockey treated seed to observe if blackleg lesions develop.
• You will receive individual paddock results and a map of all samples.

Please note: There are no quarantine restrictions associated with fungicide tolerance. The results will only be published in the form of a low resolution map and no personal or identifying details will be published.
